After much thought and research, we are going to revamp our next activity. It was getting little too complicated and more like just a taste tester thing with no really spiritual value which is really what we should be leaning towards with these activities. Also, originally the purpose was to show how to "hide" veggies in commonly liked foods for those with picky eaters. Then I came across this:<br /><br /><a href="http://whatscookingblog.com/2007/12/03/does-deception-belong-at-the-dinner-table/">http://whatscookingblog.com/2007/12/03/does-deception-belong-at-the-dinner-table/</a><br /><br />And I agree that the only way to teach good eating habits to our kids (and ourselves) is to show the food in their true form and dress them up in various ways with sauces and spices. Basically Experiment!<br /><br />So here's another idea.<br /><br />I want to call it "An Apple a Day--how to feed yourself spiritually"<br /><br />We'll focus on getting spiritually healthy.<br /><br />We'll discuss how to do a spiritual check-up and maintain the soul as well.<br /><br />Then make caramel apples...because 1) we can, 2) they are delicious, and 3) they would symbolize the great inner core you have that you can only make better with piling on the scripture reading, temple attending......yeah I'm stretching but caramel apples sound really good right now.<br /><br />Thoughts? Added twists to amp up the fun?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1240355327997730385.post-79864202997927621132010-07-07T21:30:00.000-07:002010-07-07T21:33:13.555-07:00Votes are in and Schedule ChangeVotes have been tallied (not many but whatever) and we will be doing the "Deceptive Cooking" as our next activity.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">HOWEVER...<br /></div><br />We will not be doing it in August :( With family in town, a trip to Lake Powell and the State Fair, I've postponed it to September!<br /><br />Keep checking back for the exact date!<br /><br />Also notice a change in scheduling for future dates. We will have a total of 3 recipes and they will be easy peasy. Trust me. And if you have someone you want to recruit to help you, then great! Please do!<br /><br />Basically you'll demonstrate how it's done at the activity and then let the ladies have at it.<br /><br />Also, don't worry, we'll not only give you the recipe but ALSO the stuff to make it.<br /><br />If you're interested in sharing of your time and talent for this activity, let me know! We can't do it without some awesome volunteers.<br /><br />~Mahana Petersen<br /><br />ps. bonus is if you're a volunteer, you'll be there first and get first tastings of everything!!!!!! lucky lucky you! These will be “general” enough that it should excite Relief Society Ladies of all ages and interests to participate, PLUS completely non-member and inactive "friendly".<br /><br />Our first one will be the June 3rd "Fashion" SWAP. <span style="font-size:85%;">{See Blog posting after this one.}</span><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">My MINI Goal:</span><br /><br />Hold a minimum of 3 “specific” activities to be held in-between the “major” ones. They will be based on feedback from YOU, the Relief Society women. As the date for a "mini" activity comes closer, I will put a couple of ideas up for a vote!<br /><br />To keep things simple on the "minis", the focus will be on activities that fall within the following categories:<br />• Crafts<br />• Cooking<br />• Motherhood<br /><br />Sometimes your choice will be the winner and other times it won't. We obviously can't have an activity that pleases <span style="font-style: italic;">everyone</span> but I'm hoping with a simple vote, we can at least please most. Fingers crossed. It'll be a work in progress and if it seems like voting isn't working, then we'll go to Plan B. Let me know if any of you have a Plan B :)<br /><br />Thanks Ladies! Hope to see you all at our first activity!!!!Pioneer Peak Relief Societyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12831932410958872049noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1240355327997730385.post-83560533746185187612010-05-14T13:37:00.001-07:002010-05-16T21:56:09.818-07:00Pioneer Peak RS Fashion SWAP! <meta name="Title" content=""> <meta name="Keywords" content=""> <meta equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> <meta name="ProgId" content="Word.Document"> <meta name="Generator" content="Microsoft Word 2008"> <meta name="Originator" content="Microsoft Word 2008"> <link rel="File-List" href="file://localhost/Users/mahanapetersen/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/msoclip/0clip_filelist.xml"> <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:officedocumentsettings> <o:allowpng/> </o:OfficeDocumentSettings> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:worddocument> <w:zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:trackmoves>false</w:TrackMoves> <w:trackformatting/> <w:punctuationkerning/> <w:drawinggridhorizontalspacing>18 pt</w:DrawingGridHorizontalSpacing> <w:drawinggridverticalspacing>18 pt</w:DrawingGridVerticalSpacing> <w:displayhorizontaldrawinggridevery>0</w:DisplayHorizontalDrawingGridEvery> <w:displayverticaldrawinggridevery>0</w:DisplayVerticalDrawingGridEvery> <w:validateagainstschemas/> <w:saveifxmlinvalid>false</w:SaveIfXMLInvalid> <w:ignoremixedcontent>false</w:IgnoreMixedContent> <w:alwaysshowplaceholdertext>false</w:AlwaysShowPlaceholderText> <w:compatibility> <w:breakwrappedtables/> <w:dontgrowautofit/> <w:dontautofitconstrainedtables/> <w:dontvertalignintxbx/> </w:Compatibility> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:latentstyles deflockedstate="false" latentstylecount="276"> </w:LatentStyles> </xml><![endif]--> <style> <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:Cambria; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:auto; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:3 0 0 0 1 0;} @font-face {font-family:Baskerville; panose-1:2 2 5 2 7 4 1 2 3 3; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family:auto; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:3 0 0 0 1 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin-top:0in; margin-right:0in; margin-bottom:10.0pt; margin-left:0in; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ascii-font-family:Cambria; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:Cambria; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Cambria; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --> </style> <!--[if gte mso 10]> <style> /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin-top:0in; mso-para-margin-right:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:10.0pt; mso-para-margin-left:0in; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ascii-font-family:Cambria; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Cambria; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;} </style> <![endif]--> <!--StartFragment--> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13pt; font-family: Baskerville;">WHEN: Thursday June 3, 2010 at 7pm-8:30pm (SWAP will officially begin at 7:30p but be there by 7p so we can display your goods!)<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13pt; font-family: Baskerville;">WHERE: At the Church (but hopefully outside!!!)<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 13pt; font-family: Baskerville;">WHY: We all have things in our closet that we have grown tired of or simply do not use anymore.<span style=""> </span>Chances are you will NEVER wear that shirt you insist on saving for that “special” occasion.
